The last time we were in Manitou Springs, it was to conquer the famed Manitou Incline. Suffice it to say, we were pretty exhausted and not in the mood to explore the actual city. Fast forward a year and our good friend Jordan moved back to town. She grew up in the Springs, so we thought who better (and where better?!) to spend the day catching up.
Manitou is such a quaint mountain town! It was revered by the Cheyenne, Ute, and Arapaho tribes for the mineral water that erupts from the Earth (they considered it the breath of the spirit Manitou). It was unreal to visit the cliff dwellings in which the Anasazi tribe lived! I couldn't stop commenting on how long it would have taken the tribes to carve their dwellings into the Earth, and then for historians to subsequently move the cliff dwellings from the Four Corners area into Manitou Springs to be preserved.
The town claims to be the first resort town in Colorado due to the hot springs, and I can totally see the appeal. We spent the better part of the day sampling delicious sweets, smelling the yummiest candles, and trying not to spend all of our money (but its so hard, especially at Manny's fudge!!) at all of the adorable shops lining the Main Street. Definitely bring cash as some vendors have a minimum purchase before they will run your card. It was sooo windy when we went that I was glad I brought my windbreaker (linked below) to help temper the wild Colorado climate! It was just such a great day trip - can you see how hard it is not to be carried by the charm of Manitou Springs?!
PSST - the look I wore here was featured on American Eagle's style gallery (whaaaaa!!!!!!) I absolutely ADORE their white jeggings - they are so soft and don't feel like jeans. They are hands down my favorite pair and totally affordable (as of date of this post < $20!)
