Happy Tuesday friends! We hope you had a great weekend! It was a hot one and we took the opportunity to spend it outside at the park. We were talking about how we miss watching movies at the park (Salt Lake City definitely knew how to host cutesy date nights). Do you know of any around here?
One movie that we would love to watch at the park is Crazy Rich Asians, out in theaters on August 17. We had the opportunity to watch the movie pre-release courtesy Warner Brothers & Ladies of Denver a few weeks ago and thought we would share our thoughts on the movie with you!
If you haven't read the book yet, go pick up a copy right.now. before you even finish reading this post! It is written by Kevin Kwan and boy does he know how to weave an amazing and funny story about the privileged and crazy life of rich Asians. The plot primarily revolves around Rachel Chu, a Chinese American, and her boyfriend, the wealthy Nick Young. When Rachel agrees to spend a summer in Singapore with Nick, she has NO IDEA what she has walked into with Nick's crazy rich family! Kwan weaves the back story of old money Asians with that of new money Asians and the different, but interwoven, statuses they occupy on the social ladder. I absolutely loved the book, and was therefore overjoyed to be invited to a pre-screening of the movie, out in theaters mid-August. The movie changes a few elements of the book, turning it more into (in my opinion anyway), something loosely resembling an Asian version of Cinderella. The movie takes some liberties with the backstories of Nick's family (I get it is difficult to portray all of their crazy antics, but you lose some oomph by not doing so) as well as only loosely resembled the end of the book (don't worry, I won't ruin it!) I absolutely liked the book more than the movie, BUT both Brandon and I loved the movie! It is such a cute rom-com: we laughed, we cried, and we celebrated with the characters. This is a must-watch movie of the summer for sure!! Have you read the book? Are you planning on watching the movie?
