Hi everyone! We are so incredibly excited to share our time in Crested Butte with you! This was one of the first hikes that we did there, and it did not disappoint! This is a great family-friendly hike right outside of Crested Butte that leads you to this incredible waterfall. We spent an insane amount of time here taking pictures, and honestly none of them do the actual hike any justice. One thing we learned from this hike was that there is a bank of early morning fog that descends over the area - it takes a few hours to burn off, but keep that in mind if your goal is photography (or seeing any of the sights)!
This was such an easy and great way to start off our hiking day in Crested Butte. The trail starts right off the main road, although if you have a high-clearance 4WD vehicle, you can drive up to the mouth of the trail. Otherwise, just park by the outhouse like we did, and start your trek through the woods. This part has a slight incline - just enough to where we could feel it in our thighs, but not hard enough that we had to stop and take breaks.
Once we were at the official “start” of the trail, it was wide open and we had sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and the town of Gothic, below. The trail had informative signs every so often, and we really enjoyed stopping by to read how erosion has shaped this landscape.
There is one rocky section right before the waterfalls, but we just went slow and it wasn’t a problem for us. We loved that there was a bench overlooking the falls - it was a great reminder to just sit and enjoy our surroundings! ♡
