Location: Idaho Springs, Colorado
Distance from Denver: 60miles (1.5hours) ♡ ♡ ♡
Hike: We drove this (the roads are super narrow!) ♡ ♡
Parking Situation: the lot at the top is small and there are a lot of large SUVs that try to park and navigate the narrow roads. It definitely takes courage to drive this road ♡
Parking Fee: N/A, but there is a fee to drive up to the top (PSST: if you have an annual national parks pass, you can use it here!)
The thing about 14'ers is that they are | | u n p r e d i c t a b l e | |. There's something literally chilling in the air as the temperature drops over 30 degrees from the valley below and snow starts to fall in the middle of August! The hairpin turns hug the curve of the mountains and offer a treacherous drive for those brave enough to venture up. This is the sort of ~mystic~ beauty you expect from Colorado - and she certainly does not disappoint. Enjoy our journey from the base at Echo Lake to the top of Mount Evans (elevation: 14,265′). It was Brandon's first time up a mountain that high; I can tell you that it certainly will not be his last!
