Happy Saturday! We love the weekends (who doesn't!?!) & we love this lake ♡ We feel like this is quite often overlooked; most people near this part of the park either head over to the Glacier Gorge trailhead or the Bear Lake trailhead. All the better for us! :) This gorgeous lake is really a "cirque"; that is, it is nestled high into the mountains and is surrounded by mountains. Literally, one of our absolute favorites!
The hike starts and ends in the forest; sandwiched in-between are a handful of switchbacks. It is an incline but honestly, you can hardly feel it! We hustled up the trail (due to impending storms) in about 30 minutes and made it to the lake before the storm hit. A helpful tip: when you first see the signs for Bierstadt Lake at the top, be sure to go towards the Bear Lake side. This is the side that has the mountains as the backdrop (pictured below!)
What surprised us the most was how much wildlife was up here! There were so many ducks and chipmunks that we were thoroughly entertained for an hour just hanging out with these little guys!
The animals were super friendly, and we were able to get pretty close to them (obviously leaving some respectful distance; also don't ever feed these little guys! It's bad for them to get dependent on humans). There were a few people fishing as well, although we don't know if they actually caught anything! We were surprised at how relatively secluded this lake was; we only saw about 10 other people. Honestly we thought it would be much more crowded given how gorgeous it was!
Obviously we were obsessed with the duckies! There were just so many of them, and they posed pretty well ;) At first they kept looking at us, but once they realized we would stay a respectful distance away from them, they became really comfortable around us and even started to sleep!
This was such a magical hike & we can't wait to come back to hang out with our new friends! ♡
